The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) celebrated its 8th anniversary on September 9, 2024, highlighting its transformation into the country’s premier events and exhibitions hub. Over the past eight years, the OCEC has hosted over 250 international and local events annually, attracting thousands of delegates from around the globe. This milestone was commemorated with a series of staff activities at the venue. As a subsidiary of the OMRAN Group, the OCEC has been instrumental in the development of the Madinat Al Irfan area, alongside nearby hotels like JW Marriott and Crowne Plaza OCEC, making it an ideal location for major events due to its proximity to the airport and top-notch facilities.
The OCEC has contributed significantly to Oman’s economic diversification, particularly in the business events sector, bringing in over 50,000 international delegates over the years. This has provided a platform for crucial discussions on the country’s future, driving investment and growth in various business sectors. Through collaborations with key governmental stakeholders, the OCEC remains dedicated to generating positive economic outcomes for Oman. The venue has also been a key player in creating jobs, with a focus on employing local talent and offering valuable work experience to over 500 interns. Furthermore, the OCEC has prioritized the career development of its staff, with many senior executives and managers engaged in national training programs to enhance their skills.
Reflecting on the journey of the OCEC, CEO Eng. Said Al Shanfari emphasized the venue’s role as a space for meaningful conversations about the country. The OCEC serves as a platform for discussions between private and public stakeholders on various topics such as green hydrogen, technology, social care, and education. Al Shanfari expressed pride in working with a motivated and talented team, including many Omanis starting out in the industry. Looking ahead, the OCEC aims for even greater achievements, with a focus on innovation, digitalization, and sustainability. The venue has received regional recognition for its sustainable initiatives, such as a solar rooftop panel project to offset carbon emissions and position itself as a leading venue in the MICE industry.
In just eight years, the OCEC has become a leading venue in the region, attracting high-profile events like the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists World Congress scheduled for October 2024. The venue’s commitment to working with local SMEs to drive economic growth has further solidified its position in the industry. With a track record of success and a vision for the future, the OCEC continues to strive for excellence and promote Oman as a top international destination for events and exhibitions.
