In Doha, Qatar, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) recently celebrated World Physiotherapy Day on September 8th, focusing on the crucial role of physiotherapy in managing and preventing Low Back Pain (LBP). Led by Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad and Noora Al Mudekhla, a series of events and activities were organized throughout September to raise awareness about the significance of physical therapy in enhancing health and wellbeing in Qatar.

The events included public awareness booths at various HMC facilities to educate patients and visitors on prevention strategies, ergonomic practices, and the importance of seeking physiotherapy services. Additionally, there were booths set up in malls to reach a wider audience and promote the benefits of physical activity in managing LBP.

HMC staff had the opportunity to engage in seminars and educational events to discuss the latest advancements in physiotherapy, specifically focusing on LBP. The campaign also used social media to spread awareness about LBP, its causes, prevention techniques, and the role of physiotherapy in management.

LBP is a leading cause of disability globally, affecting individuals of all ages, with significant societal and economic burdens such as increased absenteeism and decreased productivity. Research supports non-pharmacological conservative interventions, including physiotherapy, as the first line of care for LBP. In Qatar, the prevalence of LBP aligns with global trends, with HMC’s Physiotherapy Department playing a vital role in providing comprehensive care to patients.

Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad emphasized the importance of physical therapy in helping individuals lead healthier and more active lives, while Noora Al Mudekhla highlighted the impact of LBP on the community, with approximately 30% of patients receiving treatment for LBP at HMC. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, HMC continues to provide dedicated online exercise videos for physiotherapy patients, supporting their recovery journey from the safety and convenience of their homes.

In conclusion, HMC remains committed to enhancing the wellbeing of the population through comprehensive physiotherapy services. As World Physiotherapy Day is recognized, the importance of understanding the value of physiotherapy in managing low back pain and improving overall quality of life is emphasized. Through continued efforts and awareness programs, HMC aims to promote best practices in clinical care, drive research, and improve rehabilitation services for the community.
