Salama Alfalacy and Meera Jamal Al Midfa are two Emirati women making waves in the contemporary art scene. Salama Alfalacy focuses on realistic art depicting landscapes and wildlife of her homeland, while Meera Jamal Al Midfa is known for her work in performance art and filmmaking. Both women are passionate about their art and draw inspiration from their cultural heritage.

Salama Alfalacy’s art reflects her deep connection to nature and the UAE. She uses Prismacolor pencils, watercolors, pastel pencils, and charcoal to bring her creations to life. The falcon, a symbol of power and tradition in the UAE, is a recurring motif in her work. Salama’s collaboration with Al Kamda Falcons has allowed her to create commissioned illustrations of falcon portraits and hunting scenes, showcasing her talent and commitment to preserving Emirati traditions.

Meera Jamal Al Midfa’s passion for storytelling began at a young age, inspired by her father’s tales of heritage and history. She studied Theatre and Film at the American University of Sharjah, where she honed her skills in both fields. Meera’s performances in theatrical productions and short films have garnered critical acclaim, showcasing her versatility as an artist. Her participation in international projects has further solidified her reputation as a rising star in the Emirati arts scene.

Meera’s decision to pursue a Master of Fine Arts at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles marked a significant milestone in her career. She became the first Emirati ever to be selected for the institute’s directing program, receiving mentorship from industry veterans. Meera’s return to the UAE was met with recognition and accolades, including starring roles in national theatrical presentations and the official theme song for Expo 2020. Her work in short films has been featured in prestigious film festivals around the world, earning her critical acclaim and awards.

Despite her success behind the scenes, Meera continues to prioritize her acting career, starring in short films and feature films that have been showcased at international film festivals. Her upcoming project, ‘Al Eid Eiden (2024)’, a collaborative effort between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, highlights her commitment to storytelling and performance. Salama and Meera’s dedication to their art and culture serves as an inspiration to future generations of Emirati women, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and push the boundaries of creativity.
