The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, in partnership with the Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), has launched the Smart Production Factories project to help Omani industries adopt advanced technologies and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies. The project’s first phase involves evaluating participating factories based on specific criteria outlined in the evaluation matrix, which is structured around three main pillars and 16 dimensions. The goal is to enable five factories to adopt 4IR applications and undergo digital transformation in 2024, with the aim of transforming 30% of factories into smart factories by 2026.

A specialized technical team from GOIC, along with a team from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, will assess the readiness of selected factories to adopt 4IR technologies using the Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) criteria. This initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to implement the outcomes of the Industrial Strategy 2040, with the goal of enhancing the competitiveness of the industrial sector and facilitating the transition to smart production factories. The initiative aims to modernize technology, create new production lines, reduce costs, increase factory efficiency, and create specialized jobs that align with educational outcomes.

Factories interested in digital transformation to improve operational processes, competitiveness, and efficiency are encouraged to participate in the initiative. By adopting 4IR technologies and automation, factories can enhance their competitiveness and efficiency in the global marketplace. The Smart Production Factories project offers participating factories recommendations for development opportunities based on their assessment using the SIRI criteria. With the support of the technical team from GOIC and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, participating factories can begin their journey towards becoming smart factories.
