Taif Governorate in Saudi Arabia has recently renewed its Healthy Cities Accreditation Certificate for the second time, making it the first city in the country to achieve this prestigious distinction twice. This recognition comes after meeting 80 criteria set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and showcasing exceptional parks, walking spaces, and health-promoting initiatives in schools and primary care centers. These efforts align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to revolutionize the health sector and create a healthier society for all residents. Prince Saud bin Nahar, Governor of Taif, accepted the certificate from Minister of Health Fahd Al-Jalajel, marking a significant achievement for the region.

Saudi Arabia is leading the way in the Middle East region with the most WHO-accredited healthy cities, boasting a total of 16 certificates spread across various locations. The Ministry of Health’s Healthy Cities Program is acknowledged as the first WHO Collaborating Center for Healthy Cities at the regional level and the fourth worldwide. This program focuses on implementing sustainable initiatives to reduce chronic diseases, enhance Saudi Arabia’s position in international health indicators, and lower health risks and medical expenses. By working collaboratively with multiple sectors and engaging the community, the program aims to create a positive impact on public health and well-being.

Minister Al-Jalajel emphasized that Taif’s successful renewal of its accreditation reflects the unwavering support of Saudi leadership, effective coordination among various sectors, and the dedication of the local community. The Healthy Cities Program in Taif involves the active participation of the Taif Municipality, Ministry of Health, Taif University, Civil Defense, General Traffic Department, and other public and private organizations. By joining forces and pooling resources, these entities are able to implement initiatives that promote health, safety, and well-being throughout the city.

During his visit, Minister Al-Jalajel conducted inspections at King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital and the Red Crescent Authority branch in Taif to ensure the quality and efficiency of healthcare services in the region. These assessments are essential to guaranteeing that residents have access to top-notch medical care and facilities. By maintaining high standards and continuously monitoring performance, the Ministry of Health can uphold its commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services to the community. This commitment is reflected in the accreditation of Taif as a Healthy City, showcasing the city’s dedication to promoting a healthy lifestyle and ensuring the well-being of its residents.

The Healthy Cities Accreditation Certificate serves as a testament to Taif’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. By adhering to the WHO’s criteria and implementing innovative health initiatives, Taif has demonstrated its leadership in creating a sustainable and thriving community. Through the support of Saudi leadership and the collaboration of multiple sectors, Taif has set a prime example for other cities in the region to follow in their pursuit of becoming healthier and more vibrant communities. The ongoing efforts of the Healthy Cities Program in Taif are a testament to the city’s dedication to prioritizing the health and well-being of its residents.

In conclusion, Taif’s successful renewal of its Healthy Cities Accreditation Certificate highlights the city’s dedication to promoting health and well-being among its residents. By meeting the stringent criteria set by the WHO and implementing innovative health initiatives, Taif has set a prime example for other cities in the region to follow. The ongoing efforts of the Healthy Cities Program in Taif, supported by Saudi leadership and various sectors, are crucial in creating a sustainable and healthy community for all residents. With its continued commitment to excellence in healthcare services and public health initiatives, Taif is paving the way for a brighter and healthier future for its residents.
