The Sharjah Ruler has implemented a special communication channel called ‘Mabara’ to help citizens settle over Dh1.150 billion in debt. This channel has brought to light numerous cases of debtors and people in need, leading to the formation of the Sharjah Citizens Debt Relief Committee, which has successfully helped settle the dues. The government’s approach to flexibility was highlighted, with directives issued by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi to government departments and institutions to open direct communication channels with the public. The ‘Direct Line’ programme on radio and television was launched to provide live communication channels, and the ‘Mabara’ channel was created for sensitive situations that could not be aired publicly.

The International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024) recently kicked off with the theme ‘Agile Governments… Innovative Communication’. The forum features more than 160 discussions, debates, workshops, and youth capacity building activities led by 250 international guests and experts. Addressing the Sharjah Ruler, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed highlighted the importance of government flexibility and cited proverbs and advice from the Ruler emphasizing the need for flexibility in government operations. He stressed the importance of drawing inspiration from deep-rooted values while leveraging advanced technology to achieve effective and flexible government communication.

The Deputy Ruler also reflected on the swift resolution of issues in a time when carrier pigeons were the fastest means of communication. In contrast, he mentioned the bureaucratic terms and delays that have become common in some government operations today. To enhance government communication, he emphasized the need for flexible minds that combine traditional values with modern technology. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed stressed the importance of not being trapped in the past or blindly following new trends, but instead finding a balance between tradition and innovation to achieve effective communication.

In conclusion, the implementation of a special communication channel like ‘Mabara’ in Sharjah has been instrumental in settling a significant amount of debt for citizens. The government’s focus on flexibility and direct communication with the public has also played a crucial role in addressing various issues and providing timely assistance to those in need. The IGCF 2024 forum serves as a platform for international guests and experts to discuss innovative communication strategies for agile governments. By embracing traditional values while leveraging advanced technology, governments can achieve effective and flexible communication to better serve their citizens and address their needs.
