Employers in the UAE are spending between Dh7,000 to Dh20,000 on visa costs for domestic workers when traveling abroad, according to a new study. A domestic worker visa allows individuals to work in private households as cleaners, chauffeurs, cooks, nannies, or personal care providers while traveling. The validity of the visa is tied to a specific employer, and the duration varies based on the employer’s stay in a particular country. The cost of visas can range from Dh5,000 to Dh20,000 depending on the number of people traveling and the urgency of the request.

There has been an upward trend in domestic worker visa applications since the beginning of 2024, with peaks occurring before the summer and winter breaks. The growth in visa applications is driven by the UAE’s robust economy, increasing disposable income among families, and the growing expatriate population. Europe, the UK, and Russia are the most popular destinations for domestic worker visas. The trend of families bringing their trusted domestic staff with them on trips rather than finding new help locally is becoming more common.

Between May and July 2023, around 320 UAE domestic worker visas were issued, with nannies leading the applications. Filipinos accounted for 90% of the applicants, followed by Algerians, Ethiopians, and other nationalities. Each country has specific requirements for domestic workers, with some permitting their accompaniment and others not. The UK and US have strict rules requiring meticulous document preparation to meet labor law standards, while Schengen countries may require domestic workers to have been with the family for over a year.

The Visa Services predicts that the demand for domestic workers in the UAE will continue to rise due to the country’s growing expatriate population and the expansion of the middle class. With increasing disposable income and the trend of families traveling abroad with their domestic staff, the need for domestic worker visas is expected to increase. The Visa Services is experienced in handling complex visa requirements and ensures that clients are well-prepared for the application process. As more families choose to bring their trusted staff with them on trips, the demand for domestic worker visas will likely continue to grow.

In conclusion, the cost and process of obtaining domestic worker visas in the UAE vary depending on the country of destination, the number of people traveling, and the urgency of the request. With an upward trend in visa applications and the growing demand for domestic workers, employers are likely to continue investing in visas for their staff. As regulations and requirements differ by country, it is essential to work with experts who understand the complexities of the visa process. The Visa Services provides valuable insights and assistance for individuals and families navigating the visa application process for domestic workers.
