The Khareef season in Dhofar, Oman has attracted a record number of visitors this year, with 816,081 people visiting the region since the season began until August 15. This represents a 10.3% increase from the same period in 2023 when 739,884 visitors were recorded. These figures were released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), showcasing the growing popularity of this annual event.

According to the data, nearly half of the visitors, 49.4%, arrived during the first half of August, indicating a strong turnout during this time period. The statistics also revealed a 10% increase in the number of Omani visitors, totaling 567,761, suggesting a growing interest in domestic tourism. Visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries also increased to 139,781, up from 125,889 last year. Additionally, the number of visitors from other nationalities reached 108,540, compared to 97,719 in 2023, showing a rise in international tourism to the region.

By mid-August, 648,083 visitors had arrived in Dhofar Governorate via land, while 167,998 came by air. This represents a 6.2% increase in air arrivals compared to the same period last year, highlighting the growing accessibility of the region for tourists. The increase in air arrivals could be attributed to improved transportation options and infrastructure development in the area, making it easier for people to travel to Dhofar for the Khareef season.

The rise in visitor numbers to Khareef Dhofar is a positive sign for the tourism industry in Oman, as it indicates a growing interest in the region’s natural beauty and cultural attractions. With more Omani and international visitors flocking to Dhofar to experience the unique climate and lush landscapes during the Khareef season, local businesses and attractions are likely to benefit from increased tourism revenue. This influx of visitors also provides an opportunity for the region to showcase its rich heritage and hospitality to a diverse audience.

As the tourism sector continues to grow in Dhofar, efforts to promote sustainable tourism practices and preserve the environment will be crucial to ensure the long-term viability of the industry. By implementing initiatives to protect the natural resources and biodiversity of the region, authorities can ensure that future generations of visitors can continue to enjoy the beauty of Khareef Dhofar. Additionally, investing in eco-friendly tourism infrastructure and activities can help attract environmentally conscious travelers and contribute to the overall sustainability of the tourism sector in Oman.

Overall, the increase in visitor numbers to Khareef Dhofar is a promising development for the tourism industry in Oman, highlighting the region’s appeal as a unique destination for both domestic and international travelers. With continued efforts to promote sustainable tourism practices and preserve the natural beauty of the area, Dhofar has the potential to become a leading ecotourism destination in the Middle East. As more people discover the beauty and charm of Khareef Dhofar, the region is poised to attract even greater numbers of visitors in the years to come, solidifying its reputation as a must-visit destination in Oman.
