The Qatari Society of Al Gannas recently announced its contests and championships for the 2024-2025 season, providing updates for falconers and competitors. Director of AGQS’s championships, Miteb Mubarak Al Qahtani, emphasized the organization’s commitment to informing falconers in advance about upcoming events. The first championship, the Ras Laffan Falconry Championship, is set to begin in November and is sponsored by the Ras Laffan social media program and supporting companies.
The Ras Laffan Falconry Championship will feature contests in various categories such as Al-Da’wa, Al-Tala, young falconers, and promising falconers. Al-Da’wa will consist of six heats leading up to the Katara Falconry and Hunting Championship 2024. The event will also include separate categories for different types of falcons in lure competitions, as well as heats dedicated to local production and the Gyrfalcon category.
Additionally, there will be a contest for the little falconer starting during the school vacation at the end of 2024. The Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2025) is scheduled for January 2025, which will culminate in the closing contests and championships of the 15th edition of the Al Gannas International Saluki Racing Championship in 2025. Deputy Chairman of the Marmi Festival, Abdul Wahab bin Omair Al Nuaimi, highlighted the importance of AGQS’s events in preserving Qatar’s falconry legacy and promoting a spirit of camaraderie among falconers.
He praised the curators and contributors who have been instrumental in the success of AGQS’s events and reiterated the organization’s dedication to serving falconers and supporting them in upholding the traditions of their ancestors. With a focus on fostering a competitive yet inclusive environment for falconers, AGQS aims to engage enthusiasts at the local, regional, and global levels. By offering a range of contests and championships, the organization seeks to provide opportunities for both experienced falconers and newcomers to participate and showcase their skills in the field of falconry.
