The Housing Minister of Bahrain, Amna Al Rumaihi, recently announced a new decision aimed at introducing regulatory changes for housing projects in the country. The decision also includes the implementation of a new guide, with the goal of streamlining the expansion of building areas for housing units and residential plots. This initiative is part of a wider legal framework that reflects the joint efforts of the legislative and executive branches.

Decision No. 899 of 2024, which was approved by the Cabinet, addresses rules for both apartment zones and undeveloped residential areas. The update came after a detailed review of cases submitted to the Ministry of Housing, feedback from citizens through the national proposal and complaints system “Tawasul,” and consultations with Members of Parliament and municipal councils. The changes are intended to clarify rules, improve access to home extensions, resolve ongoing building issues, and ensure alignment with the Ministry’s guidelines.

Minister Al Rumaihi emphasized that the new changes are consistent with existing building regulations in Bahrain, and they complement recent development decisions. These changes build upon the 2018 regulations and incorporate input from various government bodies and local councils. The goal is to create a more efficient and effective system for housing projects, while also addressing feedback and concerns from citizens and stakeholders.

The new guide introduced by the Housing Minister aims to provide clarity and guidance on the rules and regulations for housing projects in Bahrain. It is designed to facilitate the expansion of building areas for housing units and residential plots, while also addressing issues related to home extensions and building regulations. By streamlining the process and ensuring compliance with the Ministry’s guidelines, the aim is to create a more efficient and effective system for housing development in the country.
