Silatech, in collaboration with UNICEF Brazil and Generation Unlimited, has been instrumental in advancing the “One Million Opportunities” (1MiO) initiative. Since the partnership began in November 2022, Silatech has facilitated 371,332 job placements for youth in the private sector. The initiative, launched in October 2020, aims to provide skill development, learning, internships, employment, and civic participation opportunities for vulnerable Brazilian youth.
The 1MiO initiative, supported by various strategic partners including the Federal Government, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the UN Global Compact, has created over 500,000 opportunities for youth skill development and livelihood access since its inception in 2020. This initiative has been especially crucial in addressing the severe unemployment challenges faced by Brazilian youth, exacerbated by the 2015 recession and the COVID-19 pandemic. By focusing on skill and competency development across five categories, including foundational, job-specific, transferable, digital, and entrepreneurial skills, 1MiO equips young people with essential workforce skills while promoting entrepreneurship as a viable path for social and economic inclusion.
Hassan Ali Al-Mulla, CEO of Silatech, emphasized the importance of young people in shaping the future and building prosperous societies. Through the joint efforts in fostering entrepreneurship, nurturing innovation, and connecting youth to employment opportunities, Silatech, UNICEF, and Generation Unlimited aim to create an ecosystem that empowers youth to reach their full potential. The 1MiO platform has become a critical tool for both job seekers and employers, with over 105,358 young individuals registering in the past year alone. Additionally, 56 new member companies have joined the ecosystem, leading to a more inclusive and equitable employment environment in Brazil.
The first 1MiO Opportunities Fair in São Paulo was a significant milestone, bringing together around 400 young people and showcasing over 2,000 job vacancies. This event underscored the commitment of the private sector to youth employability and the broader goal of fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. Silatech’s involvement in the 1MiO initiative highlights its commitment to creating impactful employment opportunities and emphasizes the importance of international collaborations in addressing global youth unemployment challenges.
Overall, the partnership between Silatech, UNICEF Brazil, and Generation Unlimited through the 1MiO initiative has made significant strides in providing opportunities for young people in Brazil. By focusing on skill development, internship opportunities, and employment access, the initiative has helped address the pressing issue of youth unemployment in the country. With a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and essential workforce skills, 1MiO is creating pathways for young talent to thrive and contribute to the development of prosperous societies. Through continued international partnerships and collaborations, Silatech and its partners are committed to connecting more young individuals to meaningful employment opportunities, ultimately transforming lives and shaping a brighter future for youth in Brazil and beyond.
