The second edition of the summer reading camp in Doha, organized by Qatar Publishers and Distributors Forum in collaboration with the Children’s Literature Center, recently concluded with great success. The event, themed “reading through the ages,” aimed to enhance children’s expressive capabilities through various cultural activities. The camp catered to children aged five to eight with a home camp, while teenagers aged 12 to 17 participated in group guided reading sessions competition. Workshops were also organized to familiarize children with the evolution of reading tools from ancient history to modern times, encouraging them to engage in reading and writing activities to enhance their linguistic and creative skills.

Besides educational activities, the camp also featured recreational and cultural events to foster a love for reading and instill reading habits in children’s daily lives. Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, the Director of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, emphasized the camp’s role in promoting reading habits within the community as part of the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030. The vision aims to create a knowledgeable and cultured society that values education and knowledge as core aspects of life. Al Buainain highlighted that the camp was not just a summer activity but a crucial step in establishing strong reading habits from a young age.

The camp was designed to open up new opportunities for children to explore the world of writing and its various phases. By participating in the camp, children were exposed to different genres of literature and encouraged to express themselves through writing. The activities and workshops conducted during the camp aimed to engage children in reading and writing, ultimately enhancing their language and creative skills. By providing a platform for children to immerse themselves in reading, the camp played a vital role in nurturing a generation of avid readers and writers.

The collaboration between Qatar Publishers and Distributors Forum and the Children’s Literature Center showcased the commitment to promoting literacy and a love for reading among children in Qatar. The camp’s focus on reading through the ages allowed children to understand the evolution of literature and the tools used in different time periods. By participating in guided reading sessions and workshops, children were able to develop a deeper appreciation for reading and storytelling. The camp’s emphasis on cultural activities and competitions encouraged children to engage with literature in a fun and interactive way, making the learning experience more enjoyable and rewarding.

The successful conclusion of the summer reading camp highlighted the importance of providing children with opportunities to explore the world of literature and develop their reading skills. By organizing a diverse range of activities and workshops, the camp not only promoted reading habits but also fostered a sense of creativity and imagination among participants. The camp’s focus on inclusive and engaging activities underscored the commitment to creating a culture of lifelong learning and intellectual growth. As Qatar continues to pursue its National Vision 2030 goals, initiatives like the summer reading camp play a crucial role in shaping the future generation and instilling a passion for reading and knowledge in the community.
