Volunteers with Palestinian and Sudanese roots joined Dubai Cares’ ‘Back to School’ initiative in Abu Dhabi as a way of giving back to the UAE. Mouna Hassan El Kabt, born in Abu Dhabi with roots in Palestine, volunteered to console herself and help schoolchildren. She expressed her gratitude for being able to give back what she couldn’t do for her own country. El Kabt shared her difficulties in being away from her family in Palestine, but she finds solace in volunteering for initiatives like this.

Alaa Mohammed, a volunteer from Sudan, praised the UAE for its efforts in supporting children from low-income families. She highlighted the ongoing civil war in Sudan, which has caused school closures and hardship for the youth. Mohammed saw volunteering for the back-to-school program as a way to connect with her homeland and give back to the community. The turnout for the initiative was overwhelming, with over 400 volunteers participating in packing backpacks filled with school supplies.

Abdulla Ahmed Alshehhi, Dubai Cares COO, expressed his appreciation for the volunteers and their dedication to the cause. The volunteers packed 10,000 backpacks with essential school supplies that will be distributed to 12 schools across the UAE. Alshehhi credited the collaboration with partners for making the initiative possible and emphasized the impact of community engagement in addressing social challenges. Faisal Falaknaz from Aldar commended the sense of community and energy during the event and looked forward to future volunteering opportunities for worthy causes in the UAE.

Dubai Cares, founded in 2007, is part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and is dedicated to providing children and youth in developing countries with access to quality education. The organization has launched impactful, sustainable, and scalable education programs that have reached over 24 million beneficiaries in 60 developing countries. Dubai Cares’ commitment to improving education globally has made a significant difference in the lives of children and youth worldwide, with a focus on ensuring access to quality education for all. The organization continues to work towards its mission of empowering individuals through education and creating a brighter future for generations to come.
