Chris Woakes, an England pace bowler, has had a notable difference in performance between home and overseas matches. While he has taken 127 wickets in 32 Test matches on home soil, he has only managed 36 wickets in 20 matches abroad. Woakes faced criticism for his performance during England’s 2021-22 Ashes tour in Australia. However, he remains hopeful and determined to improve his game and contribute more effectively to the team’s success.

Woakes is eager to be a part of England’s upcoming tours of Pakistan and New Zealand later this year. The team is scheduled to play a three-Test series in Pakistan in October followed by three matches in New Zealand in December. Despite his struggles in overseas conditions, Woakes remains open to being selected for these tours and is willing to contribute in any way he can. He believes that a fresh perspective gained from not playing an away Test for some time might work in his favor.

In addition to his bowling, Woakes has also been focusing on improving his batting skills, which could potentially enhance his chances of selection. With a batting average of 27.76, he acknowledges the importance of being an all-rounder and has put in the effort to ensure he can contribute with the bat as well. Woakes sees his improved batting as an added advantage that could make him a more attractive option for the selectors when they are making their decisions for the upcoming tours.

England’s first Test against Sri Lanka saw Woakes making a solid contribution with the ball, picking up three wickets on the first day of the match. However, the team trails Sri Lanka by 216 runs after the conclusion of day one. Despite the challenging start, Woakes remains focused and committed to giving his best in the remaining days of the match. As England looks to bounce back and secure a win, Woakes will play a crucial role in the team’s efforts to level the playing field against Sri Lanka.

As Woakes reflects on his past performances and prepares for the upcoming tours, he remains optimistic about his capabilities and determined to make a positive impact for England. With a renewed focus on improving his overseas record and showcasing his all-round skills, Woakes is ready to step up and deliver when called upon by the team. As he continues to hone his craft and work on his game, Woakes is confident that he can overcome any challenges and contribute significantly to England’s success on the field.
