In a recent court case in Manama, an Asian man’s sentence for severing two fingers from a garage worker’s hand during a fight was upheld by the High Appeals Court. The defendant, who had originally been sentenced to three years in prison followed by immediate deportation, will now serve his full sentence unless the Cassation Court overturns it. The decision by the High Appeals Court confirms the severity of the crime and the consequences for the defendant’s actions.

The incident took place in the Salmabad area on March 1st, 2024, when the victim was allegedly assaulted by the defendant. The victim recounted the attack, stating that he was talking to the defendant when he suddenly attacked him, hitting him in the chest and head. The victim tried to run into a nearby garage to escape, but the defendant pulled him back and slammed the iron door shut on his right hand, severing two of his fingers. The defendant then continued to beat the victim before other workers intervened.

An Arab worker who witnessed the incident also testified, confirming the victim’s account of events. He stated that he saw the victim talking to the defendant before the attack occurred. The witness explained that the victim tried to run into a garage to escape, but the defendant followed him and slammed the door on the victim’s hand, causing him to fall to the ground. The defendant then proceeded to kick the victim several times on his body, resulting in injuries and the severing of two fingers.

During the investigation by the Public Prosecution, the defendant confessed to assaulting the victim by slamming the iron door with great force while the victim’s hand was caught on the edge of the door. The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with assaulting the victim, causing injuries as detailed in the forensic medical report, which led to a 13% permanent disability for the victim. The motive behind the assault remains unclear, leaving many questioning the reason for such a violent and unprovoked attack.

The ruling by the High Appeals Court upholding the defendant’s sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of committing violent acts. The decision sends a message that such behavior will not be tolerated, and those who engage in such actions will be held accountable. The victim in this case suffered physical harm and permanent disability as a result of the defendant’s actions, highlighting the devastating impact of violent assaults on individuals and their lives.

As the case moves forward to potential review by the Cassation Court, the outcome will be closely watched to see if the defendant’s sentence is upheld or overturned. The justice system in Bahrain is working to ensure that justice is served for all individuals who have been victims of violent crimes, and the decision in this case will have far-reaching implications for similar cases in the future. The victim’s courage in speaking out and seeking justice should be commended, as efforts to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions are crucial in creating a safe and just society for all.
