The Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) recently handed over the command of Combined Task Force 152 (CTF 152) to the Kuwaiti Naval Forces in a formal ceremony at the US Naval Support Activity Bahrain, home to the US Fifth Fleet. Brig. Gen. Talal Alkandri of the Kuwaiti Naval Forces took over command from Col. Assem Alamri of the RSNF. The handover ceremony was attended by top military officials, including Commander of the US Naval Forces Central Command Vice Admiral George Wyckoff and Rear Admiral Mohammed bin Hamed Al-Ghamdi from the Navy, as well as ambassadors and diplomatic corps based in Manama.

Under the leadership of the RSNF, CTF 152 carried out various operations to enforce maritime security, ensure the free and safe passage of global shipping, and combat criminal and terrorist activities. The operations included joint maritime exercises, patrols, focused missions, as well as command center training and vessel inspection courses with US forces for trainees. Established in 2004, CTF 152 is one of five task forces operating within the Combined Naval Forces of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The primary goals of CTF 152 are to enhance maritime cooperation at the regional level, support maritime security in the Arabian Gulf, protect infrastructure in international waters, and combat illegal activities and terrorist threats.

The handover of command from the RSNF to the Kuwaiti Naval Forces marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security in the region. The collaboration between the two naval forces, along with the support of the US Fifth Fleet, is crucial in maintaining peace and stability in the Arabian Gulf. The handover ceremony not only demonstrates the commitment of both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to maritime security but also highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating threats to maritime trade and infrastructure.

The handover of command from the RSNF to the Kuwaiti Naval Forces signifies the successful completion of the RSNF’s tenure at CTF 152 and the readiness of the Kuwaiti Naval Forces to take on the responsibility of leading the task force. The transition of leadership is a testament to the strong partnership between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in working together to address common security challenges in the region. The Kuwaiti Naval Forces are now ready to continue the important work of CTF 152 under their command and further enhance maritime security in the Arabian Gulf.

Moving forward, the Kuwaiti Naval Forces are expected to build on the foundation laid by the RSNF and work closely with the US Fifth Fleet and other international partners to fulfill the objectives of CTF 152. By collaborating with regional and international stakeholders, the Kuwaiti Naval Forces can effectively address maritime security threats and ensure the safety and security of global shipping lanes and infrastructure in the Arabian Gulf. The handover of command demonstrates the commitment of Kuwait to upholding maritime security in the region and contributing to broader efforts to combat terrorism and criminal activities at sea.

In conclusion, the handover of command of Combined Task Force 152 from the RSNF to the Kuwaiti Naval Forces marks a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to enhance maritime security in the Arabian Gulf. The collaboration between Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the US Fifth Fleet is essential in combatting threats to maritime trade and infrastructure in the region. The Kuwaiti Naval Forces are now poised to lead CTF 152 and continue the important work of ensuring the free and safe passage of global shipping, enforcing maritime security, and combating illegal activities. By working together with international partners, the Kuwaiti Naval Forces can contribute to regional stability and security in the Arabian Gulf.
