Real Madrid’s highly anticipated La Liga debut of French forward Kylian Mbappe did not go as planned, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Mallorca. The reigning champions struggled to break down a resilient Mallorca side, with Mbappe being frustrated by goalkeeper Dominik Greif. After Rodrygo Goes scored early for Madrid, Mallorca equalized in the second half through Vedat Muriqi’s header. The game also saw Los Blancos defender Ferland Mendy receive a red card in stoppage time for a high challenge on Muriqi.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti fielded the same starting line-up that won the UEFA Super Cup, with Mbappe leading the attacking line alongside Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. Mallorca coach Jagoba Arrasate faced a tough challenge in his first match in charge, but his team rose to the occasion and earned a valuable point against the star-studded Madrid side. Despite dominating possession and chances, Madrid were unable to capitalize on their early lead and were held to a disappointing draw.

Vinicius and Rodrygo combined well for Madrid’s opening goal, but Mallorca’s defense stood firm and limited their opportunities. Muriqi’s equalizer early in the second half shifted the momentum in Mallorca’s favor, as they defended resolutely to secure a point against the champions. Despite late chances for Mbappe and Vinicius, Greif continued to thwart Madrid’s efforts to snatch a late win. Ancelotti made changes in search of a breakthrough, but Mallorca’s defense held firm to frustrate the French forward on his league debut.

Overall, the match showcased Mallorca’s defensive resilience and Madrid’s struggles to break down organized opposition. Mbappe’s debut may not have ended in victory, but it provided valuable lessons for Madrid as they look to defend their league title. Mallorca’s performance under Arrasate bodes well for their upcoming matches, as they showed determination and tactical discipline against one of the top teams in Spain. The draw serves as a wake-up call for Madrid, highlighting the competitive nature of La Liga and the challenges they will face in the upcoming season.
