Interior design is more than just arranging furniture and colors; it is a true art form that reflects the identity and culture of a place while also impacting people’s daily lives. Samou bint Amer Tabuk, an entrepreneur and engineer, has turned her passion for interior design and architecture into a successful business venture. In an interview with Oman News Agency, Tabuk shared how her passion led her to study design academically to lay a firm foundation for her professional work. In 2019, she fulfilled her dream by establishing “Samou Design Studio” with funding from the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises.
The project was born out of the growing need in the market for innovative and sustainable design solutions that cater to the needs of individuals and institutions in Oman. By building an experienced team of designers and architects, Tabuk was able to take on various small projects to gain experience and build her customer base. As the project progressed, it achieved significant success with commercial and residential projects, as well as garden coordination. Tabuk’s clear vision and objectives have guided the project through various stages of growth, with a 30 percent annual expansion of the customer base in the last two years.
Despite facing challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, Tabuk’s persistence and adaptability allowed the project to continue operating effectively by working remotely and maintaining communication with clients. She highlighted the vital support received from government agencies in Oman, which played a crucial role in accelerating the growth of the project and achieving its goals. Looking ahead, Tabuk aims to expand the project’s services to include all GCC countries, introduce sustainable technologies in projects, and develop strategic partnerships with leading companies in the field.
Tabuk believes that the field of interior design and architecture offers ample opportunities for creativity and professional development, particularly for Omani youth. By honing their skills, leveraging educational and training opportunities, and fostering a culture of innovation and creative thinking, young talents can carve out successful careers in the industry. As Tabuk continues to make strides in the world of interior design, her journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring designers and architects looking to make their mark in the field.
