The Ministry of Labour recently organized a forum in Salalah titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Future of Work” to delve into the impact of technological advancements on the future of work, as well as the challenges and opportunities posed by new work patterns. This two-day event was aimed at preparing the workforce for the rapid changes occurring in the work environment and increasing the readiness of governments to embrace AI and future skills. The opening ceremony was graced by HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour.

The primary objectives of the forum included enhancing productivity and efficiency in the workplace, improving human capital in light of emerging challenges and advancements in the digital age, consolidating employee self-development by upskilling in new technologies, and fostering professional growth. The four working sessions of the event covered various important topics such as the impact of technological advancements on the future of work, capacity building, preparing the workforce for rapid changes, and the role of AI in enhancing the work environment.

Attendees at the forum presented working papers that discussed the significance of mastering AI engineering, the benefits of continuous education in adapting to evolving work environments, and utilizing AI to enhance employee productivity. Participants also explored better ways of utilizing AI and data science platforms, the role of AI in achieving sustainable development, and how government institutions can contribute to developing skills in a renewable economy. The discussions aimed to shed light on the importance of embracing AI and leveraging its potential in shaping the future of work.

The forum emphasized the need for individuals and organizations to stay abreast of technological advancements and equip themselves with the necessary skills to thrive in an AI-driven work environment. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development, employees can enhance their competencies and adapt to the changing demands of the digital age. The forum also highlighted the role of government institutions in supporting the development of future skills and creating a conducive environment for innovation and growth.

As businesses and industries continue to evolve and integrate AI technologies into their operations, there is a growing need for workforce preparedness and skills development. By providing opportunities for training, upskilling, and professional growth, organizations can ensure that their employees are equipped to navigate the complexities of an AI-powered work environment. The forum served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate on strategies to harness the potential of AI in shaping the future of work.

Overall, the “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Future of Work” forum in Salalah aimed to create a dialogue on the transformative impact of technology on the workforce and explore ways to leverage AI for enhanced productivity and efficiency. By focusing on capacity building, skill development, and the role of AI in improving the work environment, the event underscored the importance of adapting to technological advancements to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. As organizations and governments strive to embrace AI and future skills, forums like these play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and driving innovation in the workplace.
