Qatar Airways has partnered with the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council to launch the Qatar Open Innovation Program, which aims to revolutionize airways operations and resource management by developing a Smart Work Scheduling and Staff Allocation Tool. The program is currently seeking proposals from startups, SMEs, and corporates for AI and/or ML-based technologies to create an efficient system for allocating resources and planning aircraft maintenance and work orders effectively. The proposals are due by September 4, 2024.

Dr. Abdelhak Belaidi, RDI Program Manager at QRDI Council, emphasized the importance of this partnership in supporting Qatar Airways’ leadership in the aviation industry and shaping the future of the industry through innovation. The collaboration between QRDI and Qatar Airways aligns with the QRDI 2030 Strategy, which aims to position Qatar as a global hub for innovation. The goal is to address the National RDI priority areas and contribute to Qatar’s vision for 2030 by driving economic prosperity through innovative solutions.

Qatar Airways’ technical team currently uses an in-house system for managing workload and task assignments, but they are seeking a more efficient solution that leverages AI/ML technologies to automate resource allocation based on required skills and job competencies. The proposed tool should include features such as skill-matching filters, real-time progress updates, and adaptability to dynamic operational environments. Potential solutions may involve AI programs, NER, classification models, anomaly detection, and AI-driven data visualization tools to enhance operational efficiency.

The Qatar Open Innovation program has served as a platform for startups and innovators to collaborate with government and corporate entities and develop market-ready solutions that address the nation’s most pressing challenges. With over 50 Open Innovation Calls launched in partnership with 20 Local Partners across various sectors, the program has attracted interest from innovators both in Qatar and internationally. By identifying opportunities for innovation collaborations, the program aims to drive economic prosperity and contribute to Qatar’s development in the priority areas of energy, health, resource sustainability, society, and digital technology.

Qatar Airways expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with QRDI and emphasized the importance of innovation in maintaining their position as an industry leader. The aviation industry is dynamic and competitive, making innovation a necessity for driving efficiency and excellence in operations. Through collaboration with QRDI and leveraging AI/ML technologies, Qatar Airways aims to enhance their operations and resource management, ultimately setting new standards for the aviation industry and demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement.

In conclusion, the Qatar Open Innovation Program presents a unique opportunity for startups, SMEs, and corporates to engage with Qatar Airways and QRDI Council in developing cutting-edge solutions for airways operations and resource allocation. By harnessing the power of AI/ML technologies, participants can contribute to revolutionizing the aviation industry and shaping the future of airways operations. The program’s focus on innovation and collaboration underscores Qatar’s commitment to becoming a global hub for innovation and driving economic prosperity through technological advancement. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their proposals by the deadline to be considered for this exciting opportunity.
