“Ulajh” is a Bollywood thriller directed by Sudhanshu Saria featuring Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, and Roshan Mathew in lead roles. The film follows the story of Suhana Bhatia, a rookie IFS officer, who is posted as the Deputy High Commissioner in the UK. Despite being from an illustrious family, Suhana is determined to prove her worth and dispel the notion of nepotism. However, her life takes a thrilling turn when she gets involved in a passionate affair with a chef named Nakul Sharma, who is not who he claims to be.

The film starts off well with an engaging storyline and interesting characters played by a fantastic ensemble of actors. However, the plot of “Ulajh” eventually loses grip on the core subject as it delves into too many side tracks. The screenplay fails to deliver the expected thrills and suspense, with many sequences fizzling out and predictable outcomes. The movie also introduces unnecessary elements, such as India-Pakistan politics and a Nepal-India tension track, that do not add to the overall plot.

Despite the shortcomings in the screenplay, the performances of the cast, especially Janhvi Kapoor, stand out in the film. Janhvi portrays the character of Suhana with vulnerability and fear, holding her own against seasoned actors in the industry. The rest of the cast, including Gulshan Devaiah and Roshan Mathew, deliver commendable performances, making the film watchable despite its flaws. The film also touches on themes of sexism and nepotism, albeit superficially, and could have been explored more deeply to add depth to the storyline.

One of the criticisms of “Ulajh” lies in its portrayal of politics, which comes off as wishy-washy and unclear. The film attempts to balance the tensions between India and Pakistan without delving deeply into the complexities of the political landscape. The storyline of the movie revolves around India playing the role of the big brother who must intervene to save Pakistan from internal threats, a simplistic approach that may not resonate with all viewers. Overall, while “Ulajh” has its moments of intrigue and suspense, it falls short of delivering a gripping thriller that engages the audience till the end.

In conclusion, “Ulajh” may not live up to the expectations of a high-octane political thriller, but it does have its redeeming qualities. The performances of the cast, especially Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah, elevate the film, making it worth a watch. Despite its shortcomings in the screenplay and political nuances, “Ulajh” offers a decent storyline with engaging characters that keep the audience invested in the outcome. While it may not be a blockbuster hit, the film has enough intrigue and drama to entertain viewers looking for a Bollywood thriller with a twist.
