In a thrilling quarter-final match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Spain secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Japan, with Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez stealing the show with a brilliant brace. Lopez, a key member of Spain’s successful Euro 2024 squad, opened the scoring with a stunning left-foot strike from distance in the 11th minute, setting the tone for his standout performance. He doubled his tally with another superb goal in the 73rd minute, controlling a corner before volleying in with his right foot. Captain Abel Ruiz sealed the win late on, ensuring Spain’s place in the semi-finals.

Spain, Olympic champions in 1992 and silver medallists in Tokyo three years ago, will now face Morocco in the semi-finals. Morocco, who put on a dominant display in their quarter-final against the United States, secured a 4-0 victory and are now considered serious contenders for the gold medal. With a noisy and packed crowd behind them, Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before goals from Ilias Akhomach and captain Achraf Hakimi sealed the win. The Moroccan team, backed by a sizable community in France, have proven their strength and determination in pursuit of Olympic glory.

France and Argentina are set for a showdown in the remaining quarter-final matches, with Egypt facing Paraguay and hosts France taking on two-time gold medallists Argentina.
