The European Commission has given EU member states until the end of the year to present their national plans for implementing the EU migration pact. This new legislation aims to harmonize border procedures and systems for handling irregular migrants arriving on EU territory. Member states will have until June 2026 to fully implement the pact, but there are concerns about how human rights will be respected during the implementation process. Radio Schuman recently discussed the most sensitive aspects of the new EU migration policy with Federica Toscano, a senior policy advisor at Save the Children Europe.

In addition to the migration pact, the EU has also introduced the AI Act which entered into force on 1 August. Companies will need to comply with this new legislation within pre-established deadlines, but the question remains: how will the EU assist these companies in meeting the requirements of the law? The implementation of these new laws presents political challenges as well as practical ones, and it will be interesting to see how EU member states navigate these complexities in the coming years.

Aside from political and legal matters, Radio Schuman also delves into more lighthearted topics such as the Olympics. Have you ever wondered about the value of an Olympic gold medal? Contrary to popular belief, athletes are not biting into pure gold during those award ceremonies. The podcast, hosted and produced by Maïa de la Baume, offers a mix of serious discussions on pressing issues like migration policy and AI regulation, as well as fun tidbits about events like the Olympics.

As the EU works towards implementing these new laws and regulations, it is crucial to ensure that human rights are upheld throughout the process. The migration pact, in particular, has the potential to significantly impact the lives of migrants arriving in the EU, so it is essential that member states approach its implementation with care and compassion. By engaging in conversations like the one hosted by Radio Schuman, stakeholders can better understand the implications of these policies and work towards solutions that benefit both migrants and host communities.

It will be interesting to see how EU member states approach the implementation of the migration pact in the coming years. With political challenges and concerns surrounding human rights, it is crucial that all stakeholders work together to ensure a smooth and ethical rollout of the legislation. Radio Schuman provides a platform for these important discussions, offering insights from experts like Federica Toscano and shedding light on the practical implications of these new laws. As companies prepare to comply with the AI Act and as athletes compete for Olympic gold, the EU faces a range of complex challenges that will require collaborative and thoughtful solutions.
