The UAE recently announced a two-month amnesty program set to begin on September 1, 2021, giving violators the opportunity to regularize their visa status. This comes as a relief for many expats who have been living illegally in the country, allowing them to reunite with their families and friends through the amnesty scheme. This move marks the third residency amnesty in the UAE in recent years, offering hope to thousands who have been living in fear due to their illegal status.

The previous amnesty program, launched on August 1, 2018, was initially scheduled to last for 90 days but was extended until December 31 of the same year. Residents who resolved their absconding cases during this period were able to adjust their employment and residency status. Many individuals took advantage of the program, with some even being able to return home and start new chapters in their lives after having their overstaying fines waived.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) will soon reveal the procedures for the upcoming amnesty program. In the meantime, residents eagerly await the opportunity to regularize their status and benefit from the new initiative. The past amnesty programs have seen a significant turnout of individuals seeking to rectify their visa status and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the government.

During the previous amnesty programs, various centers were set up across the UAE to assist residents in resolving their visa issues. Thousands of overstaying residents flocked to these centers with hopes of availing of the amnesty and legalizing their status. Emotions ran high as individuals shared their stories and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to rectify their visa status and reunite with their families.

One of the heartwarming stories from the past amnesty program was that of a Filipina expat who had been living in the UAE for several years. After facing challenges due to her illegal status, she was finally able to avail of the amnesty and return to her home country without any penalties. This opportunity allowed her to fulfill her dream of reuniting with her family and starting a new chapter in her life.

Many expats who took advantage of the previous amnesty program were able to rectify their residency status and secure legal employment in the UAE. For some, this opportunity meant the chance to start fresh and build a secure future for themselves and their families. The success stories of individuals who benefited from the amnesty program serve as a testament to the positive impact of such initiatives on the lives of residents in the UAE.
