The devastating landslides in the Wayanad district of Kerala have taken over 150 lives and the death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue operations continue. Indian expatriates from Kerala residing in Oman are grieving the loss of loved ones in the disaster. The landslides hit mainly the hilly areas of Meppadi panchayat, affecting villages like Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha. Many residents were asleep when the catastrophe occurred, wiping out entire areas and leaving survivors with nothing.

Asharaf, a 27-year-old expatriate from Noolpuzha working in Oman, expressed his heartbreak at the situation. He stated that those who survived have lost everything and the process of rebuilding will take a long time as families have to start from scratch. Basheer, another expatriate from Wayanad, mentioned that some of his relatives’ homes were buried under debris while others were filled with floodwaters. He and his friends are keeping track of the situation through television and social media updates.

Wayanad is known for its lush tea plantations and is prone to floods during the monsoon season. The continuous rainfall has resulted in 164 confirmed deaths and many more still missing. The Indian community in Oman is showing solidarity with their fellow Keralites during this difficult time. Numerous relief teams have been deployed to evacuate the injured and search for the missing residents in the affected areas.

The landslides in Wayanad are considered the worst disaster to hit Kerala since the tragic floods of 2018. The affected Indian expatriates in Oman are mourning the loss of their fellow community members and are providing support to those who have lost everything. As the search and rescue operations intensify, the number of casualties is expected to increase, adding to the grief of those already affected by the natural disaster.

It is crucial for authorities to continue their efforts to reach those who are still missing and provide assistance to the survivors of the landslides. The support and solidarity shown by the Indian community in Oman towards their fellow expatriates from Kerala is heartwarming and essential during this trying time. The rebuilding process in the affected areas will take time and resources, requiring a collective effort to restore the lives of those impacted by the disaster.
