Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, recently achieved institutional accreditation from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This accreditation will allow Sidra Medicine to accredit its postgraduate medical education residency training programs in various specialties including cardiology, general surgery, nephrology, neurology, medical genetics and genomics. Prof. Ibrahim Janahi, Chair of Medical Education at Sidra Medicine, expressed his pride in achieving this accreditation and emphasized their commitment to providing high-quality postgraduate medical education for students.

The medical education programs at Sidra Medicine are designed to offer residents, graduates, and trainees an exceptional educational experience with a focus on children’s and women’s health. The aim is to mold safe and competent future doctors equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for superior patient care. Craig Ceppetelli, Executive Director of the Royal College’s Office of International Collaboration and Advancement, commended Sidra Medicine’s commitment to postgraduate medical education and expressed excitement about the collaboration between the two institutions.

Sidra Medicine is currently working towards accrediting its residency training program in pediatrics by the Royal College, with plans to seek accreditation for several more programs between 2025 and 2029. Once these programs receive accreditation, Sidra Medicine physicians will have the opportunity to challenge the Royal College certification exams. Earlier this year, Sidra Medicine hosted its second Medical Education Day to honor the graduating students, residents, and fellows of the batch of 2023-2024.

This event recognized over 50 graduating medical students who were sponsored by Sidra Medicine, as well as resident trainees and graduating fellows who were top performers in their respective specialties. The Medical Education Graduation Day at Sidra Medicine is a testament to the institution’s dedication to providing exceptional education and training to future doctors. With the Royal College accreditation in place, Sidra Medicine is well-equipped to continue shaping competent and skilled medical professionals in Qatar.
