Adnoc recently announced that its offshore Satah Al Razboot (SARB) field has achieved a 25% increase in production capacity, totaling 140,000 barrels per day. This increase supports Adnoc’s goal of reaching a production capacity of 5 million barrels of oil per day by 2027. The digital solutions implemented at the SARB field, located 120km northwest of Abu Dhabi, allow for remote operation from Zirku island, 20km away. These technologies include remote monitoring, smart well operations, and production management integrated at a remote control center for real-time decision-making, resulting in accelerated growth in field capacity, reduced costs, and emissions.

The SARB field, which started operations in 2018, is part of the SARB and Umm Lulu Concession held by Adnoc, OMV, TotalEnergies, and SOCAR, and operated by Adnoc Offshore. As part of Adnoc’s commitment to reduce its carbon intensity by 25% by 2030, the field has replaced gas turbine generators with permanent power supply from Zirku island via high voltage subsea cables. This initiative, commissioned in 2020, is in line with Adnoc’s strategy to electrify its offshore assets and reduce the carbon footprint of its operations by up to 50%.

Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, Adnoc upstream executive director, emphasized the significance of AI and digitalization in Adnoc’s smart growth strategy to meet the increasing global energy demand responsibly. The deployment of cutting-edge technologies at the SARB field has not only increased production capacity but also enhanced safety, sustainability, and efficiency of operations, positioning Adnoc as one of the world’s lowest-cost and least carbon-intensive energy producers. The technologies employed at the SARB field include solutions developed by AIQ, an Abu Dhabi-based AI company specializing in offering transformative solutions to the energy sector. AIQ’s DrillRep and OptiDrill tools process data from rigs and wells at the field to improve drilling efficiency and optimization, utilizing daily drilling data reports and rig sensor data to provide insights and actions for optimal drilling processes.

The successful implementation of advanced digital technologies at the SARB field has paved the way for further enhancements and optimizations. By operating the field remotely from Zirku island, Adnoc has streamlined operations, reduced costs, and emissions, all while increasing production capacity. This digitalization initiative aligns with Adnoc’s long-term goal to boost production capacity to 5 million barrels of oil per day by 2027 and reduce carbon intensity by 25% by 2030. The use of AI and digital solutions not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports sustainability efforts, reinforcing Adnoc’s position as a global leader in low-cost and low-carbon energy production.

As part of its commitment to sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of its offshore operations, Adnoc has leveraged advanced technologies to optimize efficiency and drive growth at the SARB field. The collaboration with AIQ, a frontrunner in AI solutions for the energy sector, has enabled Adnoc to enhance drilling processes, reduce operational costs, and improve overall production capacity. Through the integration of remote monitoring, smart well operations, and production management technologies, Adnoc has set a new benchmark for operational excellence in the offshore oil and gas industry. The successful digital transformation at the SARB field serves as a testament to Adnoc’s dedication to innovation and sustainability in the energy sector.
