Saudi Chemistry Team Wins Four Awards at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad

The Saudi chemistry team has recently achieved success at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad in Riyadh, securing four international awards. This brings the Kingdom’s total medal count to 15 silver medals, 28 bronze medals, and two certificates of appreciation from previous participations in the competition. With a total of 333 students from 90 countries participating in the 2024 edition of the Olympiad, the Kingdom continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence in the field of chemistry.

Amal Al-Hazzaa, the Secretary-General of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), credits the Kingdom’s leadership for supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to nurture young talents and prepare them to excel in global competitions. This support is crucial in instilling confidence in the youth and shaping a creative generation capable of engaging in scientific discourse and envisioning the future.

The International Chemistry Olympiad featured two main exams – practical and theoretical – that were translated into over 50 languages, creating a competitive environment for students. In addition to the academic challenges, the event also included a comprehensive program for students and supervisors, with cultural excursions to heritage and tourist sites providing insights into Saudi culture.

With the theme of “Build the Bonds,” the hosting of the International Chemistry Olympiad in Saudi Arabia highlights the global excellence of Saudi students and solidifies the Kingdom’s position as a leading international hub in scientific disciplines. Since its establishment in 1968, the Olympiad has been held annually in different countries, serving as the largest international competition in chemistry for high school students worldwide. The event aims to promote global connections in the field of chemistry and showcase the talents of young chemists from around the world.

In conclusion, the success of the Saudi chemistry team at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to nurturing young talents and promoting excellence in the field of chemistry.
