Selena Gomez recently addressed rumours about her undergoing cosmetic procedures in response to a TikTok video analyzing her changing looks. The video, which has since been deleted, prompted Gomez to speak out about the speculation and clarify that her appearance changes are due to health struggles with lupus, not cosmetic work. The content creator in the video, a physician assistant in a plastic surgery office, declined to comment on Gomez’s appearance and highlighted the impact of lupus on a person’s looks.

In her comment on the video, Gomez explained that her changing appearance was due to a flare-up of her lupus and the use of Botox, urging people to leave her alone. Following Gomez’s response, the content creator pinned a new video and penned an apology note, expressing remorse if her comments had upset Gomez. Gomez responded with love but also mentioned feeling sad sometimes about the scrutiny she faces over her appearance and health issues.

Selena Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2014, an autoimmune disorder that affects tissues and organs, and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 as a result of her condition. In early 2023, Gomez addressed concerns over her health stemming from a TikTok video showing her shaking hands while applying skincare products. She explained that the shaking was a side effect of her lupus medication and clarified that she is not a skincare expert.

Despite facing criticism and scrutiny over her looks, Gomez has consistently shared body positive messages and embraced her true self. In a January Instagram post, she reflected on an old bikini photo, acknowledging that she may never look like that again but expressing pride in being herself. The “Only Murders in the Building” actor has been vocal about self-acceptance and self-love in the face of public scrutiny and judgement.
