Two major traffic accidents filmed by Abu Dhabi Police’s road cameras were caused by drivers experiencing tyre blowouts while driving. The police shared a 45-second clip showing two separate incidents caused by tyre blowouts. In the first incident, a mini van’s tyre burst while driving in the fast lane, causing the vehicle to swerve and crash into a barrier before flipping over into the right lane. In the second incident, a mini truck experienced a sudden tyre blowout, causing it to lose control and crash into a barrier after veering across multiple lanes.

Abu Dhabi Police urged drivers to regularly check their tyres for any damage or cracks that could lead to major accidents, especially during the summer when high temperatures can affect tyre performance. It is advised for motorists to use tyres that match their vehicles’ specifications, ensuring the suitability of the tyre in terms of measurements, temperature tolerance, load capacity, year of manufacture, and suitability for long journeys or foreign travel. Driving with damaged tyres is considered an offence punishable by a fine of Dh500, 4 black points, and vehicle impoundment for one week.

A recent report revealed that the majority of road accidents in the UAE are caused by traffic violations, with a 3% increase in deaths attributed to motorists’ misbehaviour. Data on road safety statistics for 2023 from the Ministry of Interior showed that there were 352 road fatalities across the country that year. The increase in road accidents highlights the importance of following traffic rules and ensuring vehicle maintenance, particularly when it comes to tyre condition and safety.

The video footage shared by Abu Dhabi Police serves as a reminder for drivers to prioritize safety on the roads by checking their tyres regularly and adhering to traffic regulations. The incidents captured in the clip demonstrate the potential dangers of tyre blowouts while driving and the importance of preventive measures to avoid such accidents. By staying vigilant and ensuring proper maintenance of their vehicles, motorists can contribute to reducing the risk of accidents and promoting road safety for themselves and others.

As the summer season approaches, it becomes even more crucial for drivers to pay attention to their tyres and take proactive steps to prevent tyre blowouts that can lead to potentially fatal accidents. By following the guidelines provided by authorities and maintaining their vehicles in optimal condition, drivers can contribute to reducing road accidents and ensuring a safe driving environment for everyone. It is essential for motorists to prioritize safety, especially when it comes to tyre maintenance, to prevent accidents caused by tyre blowouts and uphold traffic regulations to avoid penalties and protect themselves and others on the road.
