The latest edition of a weekly talk show focuses on three main topics – Kamala Harris upending the US presidential campaign, the situation in Ukraine, and the start of the Paris Olympics. With Joe Biden dropping out of the race, the presidential campaign in the United States has taken an unexpected turn. Now, it seems like the fight will be between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Can Harris provide the Democratic Party with the energy needed to secure victory in November?

Ukraine finds itself in its third summer of conflict, facing a war of attrition without significant Western military support. The country is preparing to battle Russian advances along a 1,000-kilometer front line, relying on recently supplied Western weapons to hold back Russian forces. However, the political landscape presents a different challenge for Ukraine, as they navigate balancing Western unity with a push for peace talks on their own terms. Viktor Orban’s actions in Moscow and Beijing are seen as potentially undermining Western support, raising concerns about the unity of the EU.

The Paris Olympics have finally begun, with athletes ready to showcase their skills under the official slogan “Games Wide Open.” However, for some Paris locals, the experience has been far from joyful. Shop owners and café operators are frustrated with heavy restrictions on movement and the need for a QR code to pass, impacting business negatively. This has left many feeling that the city of Light is “All closed” instead of being open and welcoming as intended.

The decision by Joe Biden to step down from the presidential race has significantly altered the dynamics of the campaign, with Kamala Harris now taking a prominent role in the Democratic Party. As the first sitting first-term U.S. president to withdraw from the race in 56 years, Biden’s departure has left many questioning the future of the election. Can Kamala Harris generate enough excitement among women and minorities to turn the campaign around and secure victory in November?

In Ukraine, the ongoing conflict and lack of significant Western military support pose challenges for the country as it battles against Russian advances. The political landscape adds another layer of complexity, with Ukraine needing to strike a balance between Western unity and pursuing peace talks on their own terms. The actions of Viktor Orban in Moscow and Beijing raise concerns about potential divisions within the EU regarding support for Ukraine, highlighting the delicate diplomatic situation faced by the country.

As the Paris Olympics kick off, athletes prepare to compete in various events to prove themselves faster, higher, and stronger. However, for some Paris locals, the event has been met with frustration due to heavy restrictions and the need for a QR code to move around the city. This has had a negative impact on businesses and left many feeling that the city is more closed off than open for the games. The clash between the excitement of the Olympics and the challenges faced by local businesses highlights the complexities of hosting a major international event.
