As the summer break begins and schools close, children may find themselves spending more time on electronic devices. In response to this, the Abu Dhabi Police have launched a ‘Safe Summer’ campaign to raise awareness among parents about the risks of cybercrime. The department emphasizes the importance of parents doubling their supervision of children during the holidays to ensure their safety online.

With the prevalence of online bullying and abuse on the rise, it is crucial for parents to spend quality time with their children to reduce screen time and engage in activities and hobbies together. By actively participating in their children’s online activities, parents can better guide them on the safe and appropriate use of electronic devices. The Abu Dhabi Police stress the importance of parents being vigilant and involved in their children’s online behavior to protect them from potential dangers.

In addition to monitoring screen time, the Abu Dhabi Police warn about the risks associated with purchasing online games from fake and unreliable websites. Such purchases can lead to unauthorized access to bank accounts, theft of money, and recurring monthly deductions from the credit card used for payment. It is essential for parents to educate their children about safe online practices and the potential risks associated with making purchases from untrustworthy sources.

To further assist in preventing cybercrimes involving children, the Abu Dhabi Police encourage the public to report any suspicious activities or incidents through various communication channels. Individuals can contact the department through the toll-free number 8002626 (AMAN2626), send text messages to 2828, email at [email protected], or use the Abu Dhabi Police General Command smart app. By working together with the community, the police aim to create a safer online environment for children and prevent potential cyber threats.

In conclusion, as children spend more time on electronic devices during the summer break, it is crucial for parents to be proactive in guiding and supervising their online activities. By participating in their children’s online experiences and educating them about safe practices, parents can protect them from potential cybercrimes and threats. The Abu Dhabi Police’s ‘Safe Summer’ campaign reinforces the importance of parental involvement in ensuring children’s online safety and security. By staying vigilant and informed, parents can create a positive online environment for their children, free from cyber threats and risks.
