The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in Muscat has kicked off the second part of the second phase of the Al Sharqiyah Expressway project, with a budget of over OMR 68 million. This phase spans from Al Kamil and Al Wafi to Sur and is being carried out by “Tasnim Projects Limited”. The project aims to connect the wilayats of North and South Al Sharqiyah, enhancing the transportation infrastructure in the region.
The remaining works of the project include upgrading the current road to a dual carriageway with three lanes, stretching approximately 52 kilometers from Al Kamil to Sur. Additionally, a section of about 3 kilometers from Bilad Sur roundabout to Sur Plaza Hotel will be transformed into a double-track road with two lanes. The project also entails constructing an overhead intersection, bridges across valleys, arched overhead bridges, tunnels for vehicles and pedestrians, as well as installing lighting and traffic lights in Sur.
