The Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (FOIZ) has recently made an announcement about allocating additional land for the expansion of the Mena Terminal situated in the Port of Fujairah. This move comes after the Mercantile & Maritime Group acquired the Mena Terminal in October 2023. The terminal, which is a significant strategic energy trading port and one of the largest bunkering hubs globally, will see the construction of a biofuel processing plant on the additional 54,000m2 of land. This project aligns with FOIZ’s objective to attract and establish low carbon and green fuel production within the zone, in line with the Emirate of Fujairah and UAE’s strategy to reduce emissions and promote green fuels.

The Mena Terminal, a bulk liquid storage terminal at the Port of Fujairah, consists of 14 tanks holding 2.2 million barrels and storing 352,000m3 of black and white refined petroleum products. It is interconnected to other terminals in Fujairah, featuring 6 jetty lines providing access to 9 main berths and 2 bunker barge berths. With a capacity of 4,500 cbm/hour for black products and 3,000 cbm/hour for white products, the terminal also boasts its power generation system, including solar energy. Its exceptional health and safety standards are maintained by a dedicated management team.

Capt. Salem Al Afkham Al Hamoudi, Director of FOIZ, highlighted the importance of the Mena Terminal in supporting the zone’s mission to regulate various aspects of the hydrocarbon industry. He expressed delight in supporting the expansion of land dedicated to green fuels as part of the Mena Project’s initiative. Murtaza Lakhani, Chairman of Mena Terminals Fujairah FZCO, acknowledged the terminal’s innovative and leading role in the region, emphasizing its adherence to best practice environmental standards in oil storage. The land lease agreement signifies a step towards the terminal’s role as a supplier of green fuels, with gratitude towards FOIZ for their commitment to energy transition in the region.

The Mena Terminal’s expansion and the construction of a biofuel processing plant signify a significant milestone in FOIZ’s efforts to promote green fuel production in the region. The project demonstrates the zone’s alignment with the Emirate of Fujairah and UAE’s strategies to reduce carbon emissions and increase the share of green fuels in the energy mix. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and commitment to environmental standards, the Mena Terminal is set to play a pivotal role in supporting the transition towards a more sustainable energy landscape.

The announcement of the land allocation for the expansion of the Mena Terminal by FOIZ signals a positive development in the region’s energy sector. By supporting initiatives that promote the production of green fuels, FOIZ is showcasing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The expansion of the terminal and the establishment of a biofuel processing plant will not only enhance the zone’s infrastructure but also contribute to the overall goal of reducing carbon emissions and increasing the utilization of green fuels in the energy industry.

The partnership between FOIZ and the Mercantile & Maritime Group in expanding the Mena Terminal underscores the growing focus on green energy solutions in the region. By allocating additional land for the construction of a biofuel processing plant, the terminal is poised to become a key player in the production and distribution of green fuels. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the energy sector and contributing to the global efforts to combat climate change through the promotion of renewable and environmentally friendly fuel sources.

In conclusion, the agreement to allocate additional land for the expansion of the Mena Terminal in the Port of Fujairah is a significant development that highlights FOIZ’s commitment to promoting green fuel production and supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy landscape. The project is a testament to the region’s dedication to environmental responsibility and aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and increase the utilization of green fuels. With the expansion of the Mena Terminal and the establishment of a biofuel processing plant, FOIZ and its partners are setting a positive example for the energy industry by embracing innovative and environmentally friendly solutions.
