The International Chess Federation (FIDE) recently honored Mohammed Al Mudahka, the President of the Qatar Chess Association, during the celebration of International Chess Day. Founded on July 20, 1924, during the eighth session of the Olympic Games in Paris, FIDE was established by representatives of 15 national associations to create an international chess governing body. In 2019, the United Nations General Assembly approved the celebration of World Chess Day on July 20th each year to commemorate the founding of FIDE. The recognition bestowed upon Mohammed Al Mudahka and Jo Shen reflects their dedication to promoting and enhancing the game of chess in Qatar and beyond, aligning with FIDE’s mission to advance the global chess community.
