The Ministry of Works in Bahrain has completed the first phase of the Ria Street Development project, a part of its road development program. This project significantly increases the road’s capacity, allowing for 4,000 vehicles per hour to pass through, a 110% improvement from its previous capacity. The aim of this project is to ease traffic congestion and improve accessibility for residents in the area.

The first phase of the Ria Street project involved renovating the road from its intersection with Arad Street to its intersection with 12th Street, covering a distance of 1.2 kilometers. This development included turning Ria Street into a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, as well as modernizing existing intersections with the addition of traffic lights, pedestrian walkways, storm water drainage systems, and upgraded infrastructure. Furthermore, enhancements were made to lighting, road signs, markings, and the construction of pedestrian barriers for safety.

Prior to the project, Ria Street had a daily capacity of approximately 15,000 vehicles per hour, with a peak capacity of 1,900 vehicles per hour during rush hours. However, with the addition of two lanes in each direction, improved intersections, and acceleration and deceleration lanes, the road’s capacity has now been increased to 4,000 vehicles per hour, representing a significant 110% increase.

In addition to the completion of the Ria Street project, the Ministry of Works has announced six urgent projects as part of the third and fourth road development packages to further alleviate traffic congestion in the area. These urgent projects include adding a third lane in each direction on Al Mahzoura Street between Um Al Nasan Avenue and its intersection with 37th Street, as well as developing the intersection of Shaikh Jaber Al Sabah Street with 1st Street leading to Um Al Saad Avenue.

Overall, the completion of the first phase of the Ria Street Development project and the announcement of six urgent projects by the Ministry of Works in Bahrain demonstrate a commitment to improving the road infrastructure in the area. With increased road capacity, modernized intersections, and other enhancements, residents can expect smoother traffic flow and improved accessibility as the projects continue to progress.
