Stephen Curry put on a show as the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s National Team faced Serbia in a game that was dedicated to Dejan Milojevic, a former professional player and assistant coach on Curry’s Golden State Warriors who passed away. With Curry scoring 24 points, including an impressive 18 in the first half, the US defeated Serbia 105-79 in a showcase game in Abu Dhabi. The win left the Etihad Arena crowd buzzing about the team’s performance, with Bam Adebayo contributing 17 points and eight rebounds, Anthony Edwards adding 16 points and LeBron James scoring 11 points for the Americans.

The US team, which currently holds a 3-0 record in the USA Basketball Showcase, will now head to London for games against South Sudan and Germany as they conclude their pre-Olympic play. Anthony Davis showcased his defensive prowess by blocking six shots in the game, while Joel Embiid matched Adebayo with a team-best of eight rebounds. The team’s head coach, Steve Kerr, praised the players for their competitive spirit, particularly on the defensive end, as they managed to wear down Serbia with their ball pressure and defensive efforts.

Adebayo, who has been impressive with 15 3-pointers this season, continued his good form by hitting multiple shots from long range in the game. His ability to work alongside Davis, who has also been a defensive force with 12 blocks so far, has been a valuable asset for the US team. Kerr highlighted the chemistry between Adebayo and Davis, noting their ability to switch positions, protect the rim, and apply ball pressure, which sets a positive tone for the team both offensively and defensively.

The US team’s starting lineup in the game featured Curry, Jrue Holiday, Jayson Tatum, James, and Embiid, while the second unit included players like Tyrese Haliburton, Edwards, Booker, Davis, and Adebayo. Despite injury replacement Derrick White joining the team in Abu Dhabi with minimal practice time, he made a notable contribution during brief stints on the court. The absence of Kevin Durant, who missed all three showcase games due to a strained calf, was felt, but he did participate in on-court activities before the game.

Overall, the US team’s dominant performance against Serbia showcased their talent and potential for success in the upcoming Paris Olympics. Curry’s emotional tribute to Milojevic, combined with strong performances from Adebayo, Edwards, and James, bodes well for the team’s chances to compete at a high level. With Kerr’s emphasis on defensive intensity and team chemistry, the USA Basketball Men’s National Team looks poised to make a strong impression as they continue their preparation for the Olympics.
