The UAE has welcomed the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion, declaring Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem a violation of international law. The Hague-based ICJ stated that Israel’s presence in the Palestinian Territories is illegal and urged the country to end its unlawful presence as soon as possible and cease all new settlement activities.

The UAE expressed its rejection of any measures that aim to change the historical and legal status quo in the occupied Palestinian territories. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the need to support efforts to advance the peace process in the Middle East and put an end to illegal practices that threaten the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The ICJ also stated that Israel’s policies and practices, including the maintenance of a wall between the territories, amount to annexation of large parts of the occupied territory. The advisory opinion was met with criticism from Israel, calling it a “decision of lies”, but was welcomed by the Palestinian presidency as a historic ruling.

The ICJ’s statement comes amid escalating tensions in the region due to the death toll and destruction in Israel’s conflict with Hamas. The court’s finding highlights the need for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the importance of upholding international law to ensure a just and lasting solution.

The UAE’s support for the ICJ’s advisory opinion signals its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region and ensuring that international law is respected and upheld. By rejecting illegal practices and advocating for the two-state solution, the UAE aims to contribute to the efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Overall, the UAE’s stance on the ICJ’s advisory opinion reflects its commitment to upholding international law and promoting peace and stability in the region. By rejecting illegal practices and supporting efforts to advance the peace process, the UAE is playing a crucial role in advocating for a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
