The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is implementing various training programs to enhance camel milk production and its by-products through empowering productive families in the Niyabat of Asa’ib in the Wilayat of Rakhyut, Dhofar Governorate. Ahmed bin Salim Al Najar, Director of Livestock Department at the Directorate of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate, mentioned that the training program focusing on financial management is currently being supervised by FAO. Additionally, a program to improve the skills and knowledge of women camel breeders will be conducted next week. The goal is to increase the value added to camel milk and its derivatives in the Wilayat of Rakhyut, which has the largest share of camels in Oman, making up 60% according to 2023 statistics from the Ministry.

The project aims to reach 20 percent of women residing in rural areas of the Wilayat of Rakhyut as part of the ministry’s initiatives to promote the development of meat and dairy industries. The training programs seek to equip women camel breeders with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance camel milk production and create value-added products, ultimately increasing their income. By empowering these productive families, the ministry hopes to boost the local economy and contribute to the sustainable development of the agriculture and livestock sector in the region.

These training programs are essential in building the capacities of women camel breeders to effectively manage their finances and maximize the potential of camel milk production. By providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge, the ministry and FAO are enabling these women to take control of their own economic destinies and contribute to the growth of the livestock industry in the region. The focus on empowering women in rural areas highlights the importance of gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in the development of agriculture and livestock sectors in Oman.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, along with FAO, recognizes the significant role that women play in the agricultural sector and is committed to providing them with the necessary support and training to succeed in this field. By targeting women camel breeders in the Wilayat of Rakhyut, the ministry is not only promoting gender equality but also creating opportunities for women to actively participate in economic activities and contribute to the overall development of the region. These training programs are a step towards building a more inclusive and sustainable agriculture and livestock sector in Oman.

The focus on enhancing the skills and knowledge of women camel breeders in the Wilayat of Rakhyut is part of a larger effort to promote the development of the agriculture and livestock sectors in Dhofar Governorate. By targeting women in rural areas, the ministry is addressing the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women in the agricultural sector and providing them with the necessary support to succeed. Through these training programs, women camel breeders will be able to increase their income, improve the quality of camel milk and its derivatives, and contribute to the overall growth of the local economy.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in collaboration with FAO, is committed to empowering women camel breeders in the Wilayat of Rakhyut through training programs aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge in camel milk production. By providing them with the necessary support and resources, the ministry is creating opportunities for women to actively participate in the agricultural sector and contribute to the overall development of the region. These training programs are a vital step towards building a more inclusive and sustainable agriculture and livestock sector in Oman, ultimately benefiting the local economy and community.
