France’s forward Olivier Giroud has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to an illustrious career that saw him become the all-time leading goalscorer for the French national team. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Giroud thanked coach Didier Deschamps for his trust and praised the bonds formed with his teammates during his 13-year tenure with Les Bleus. The 37-year-old striker expressed his pride and gratitude for representing his country and winning the World Cup in 2018, along with reaching the finals of other major tournaments.

Giroud’s international career was highlighted by his record-breaking 57 goals in 137 appearances for France, surpassing the previous record set by Thierry Henry. He made his debut in 2011 and scored his first goal against Germany, with his final goal coming in a victory over Chile in March 2024. Despite narrowly missing out on another World Cup title in 2022, Giroud’s contributions to the French national team have been invaluable and will forever be remembered by fans and teammates alike.

Having previously announced his intention to retire after Euro 2024, Giroud’s decision to step away from international football comes as he prepares to join Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC for the upcoming season. His experience and leadership on the field have made him a respected figure in the football world, and his legacy as one of France’s greatest forwards is firmly established. As he bids farewell to the national team, Giroud leaves behind a lasting impact that will continue to inspire the next generation of French footballers.

Throughout his career, Giroud’s professionalism, work ethic, and goal-scoring ability have made him a valuable asset to both club and country. His achievements on the international stage, including his World Cup victory and numerous individual accolades, have solidified his place as a footballing legend in France. As he embarks on the next chapter of his career in Major League Soccer, Giroud will bring his wealth of experience and talent to the pitch, continuing to leave a lasting legacy in the sport he loves.

Despite facing challenges and setbacks throughout his career, Giroud’s determination and dedication to his craft have never wavered. His ability to rise to the occasion in key moments and lead his team to victory have solidified his reputation as a top striker in world football. As he reflects on his time with the French national team, Giroud can take pride in his accomplishments and the impact he has had on the sport, both on and off the field. His retirement marks the end of an era for French football, but his contributions will be remembered for years to come.

Looking ahead, Giroud’s transition to Major League Soccer offers him a new opportunity to showcase his skills and continue competing at a high level. His move to Los Angeles FC will bring a new challenge and a chance to leave his mark on the American soccer landscape. As he embarks on this new chapter, Giroud’s fans and supporters will undoubtedly follow his journey with excitement and anticipation, eager to see him excel once again on the field. With his retirement from international football, Giroud leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations, inspiring aspiring footballers to chase their dreams and never give up on their goals.
