The land transport sector in Doha, Qatar has become a vital component of the country’s economy, as it continues to work towards achieving the goals set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030. The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has reported a significant increase in transactions conducted through its Land Transport Sector in the second quarter of this year. Compared to the same period last year, there has been a surge of 78.76% in transactions, with a total of 2,971 transactions being carried out in Q2 of this year.

A breakdown of the transactions reveals that 1571 were related to land transport licensing, 766 dealt with road affairs, and 634 were linked to land transport planning. The services offered by the land transport sector include road defects detection, safety measures on roads, directional signs, building permit requests, traffic impact studies, and the approval of land transport network planning cases. Additionally, preliminary approvals for limousine, land transport, and car rental business activities are also issued by the sector.

The land transport planning aspect of the sector plays a crucial role in setting the general planning policy for land and railway transport activities. It conducts necessary studies, design plans, as well as plans for the construction and development of land and railway transport networks in coordination with relevant authorities in Qatar. Moreover, it identifies licensing requirements and fees for land and railway transport activities to ensure smooth operations within the sector.

Earlier this year, the MoT finalized the Qatar Freight Master Plan (QFMP), which aims to enhance the infrastructure for ground freight and advance the sector within an integrated transportation system. The QFMP aims to bring the ground freight sector up to international standards and practices by improving security, safety, efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. This will support the competitive capability of Qatar in attracting supply chain movements, trade lanes, economic production, and meeting the national requirements laid out in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

In conclusion, the land transport sector in Qatar is playing a crucial role in supporting the country’s economy and development goals. With a sharp increase in transactions conducted through the sector, it is clear that the efforts towards enhancing infrastructure, safety, and efficiency are bearing fruit. The Qatar Freight Master Plan is set to further boost the sector by aligning it with international standards and practices, ultimately supporting the country’s sustainable development and economic growth objectives. As Qatar continues to invest in its transport network, the land transport sector is poised to become a key enabler of the country’s future growth and prosperity.
