Saudi Arabia has strongly reiterated its support for the Palestinian people in their quest to regain their lands, restore their legitimate rights, and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This message was delivered by Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil, the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, during the annual conference of donors to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in New York. Alwasil emphasized the importance of supporting UNRWA and preserving its mandate while seeking sustainable solutions to the financial challenges it faces.

Saudi Arabia has shown its commitment to the Palestinian cause through urgent contributions totaling approximately $85 million following the Israeli aggression on Gaza. This includes $55 million allocated to UNRWA, as well as airlifts of humanitarian aid such as shelter, medical, and food supplies, amounting to over 7,000 tons, delivered via 54 planes and 8 ships. These contributions highlight Saudi Arabia’s dedication to providing much-needed support to the Palestinian people during times of crisis.

At the annual conference, 118 member states of the United Nations came together to join the Joint Commitment Initiative to support UNRWA. This collective effort aims to address both political and financial challenges and underscores the vital role that the agency plays in providing services to Palestinian refugees. By supporting UNRWA, countries are contributing to regional stability and helping to ensure that Palestinian refugees receive the assistance they need to survive and thrive.

The outcomes of an independent investigation into UNRWA’s performance were welcomed by Ambassador Alwasil during his address at the conference. This highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to transparency and accountability in ensuring that UNRWA continues to effectively fulfill its mission of providing essential services to Palestinian refugees. By addressing financial challenges and supporting UNRWA, countries like Saudi Arabia are playing a crucial role in upholding the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict remains a pressing issue in the Middle East, and Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people is a crucial aspect of efforts to achieve a just and lasting solution to the conflict. By advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, Saudi Arabia is aligning itself with international efforts to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people and bring about peace and stability in the region. The financial contributions and support provided by Saudi Arabia and other nations are essential in addressing the needs of Palestinian refugees and working towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

In conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, as highlighted at the annual conference of UNRWA donors in New York, sends a strong message of solidarity and commitment to the Palestinian cause. By contributing substantial financial aid and advocating for the rights of Palestinian refugees, Saudi Arabia is playing a key role in advancing efforts towards a sustainable solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The support of 118 member states in the Joint Commitment Initiative demonstrates the international community’s recognition of the importance of UNRWA’s work and the need to address the challenges facing Palestinian refugees. Through continued support and cooperation, countries can work together to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian refugees and promote stability and peace in the region.
