The e-commerce sector in Saudi Arabia has seen significant growth in recent years, with the issuance of commercial records for e-commerce businesses increasing by 17.47% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is a testament to the increasing popularity and importance of e-commerce in the country. Riyadh City leads the way in Saudi Arabia for issuing e-commerce records, followed by Makkah, the Eastern Province, Madinah, and Al-Qassim. Strengthening the e-commerce business system is a key goal of the National Transformation Program, which supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

E-commerce plays a vital role in strengthening the national economy and Saudi Arabia is ranked among the top 10 growing countries in this field. The Ministry of Commerce is focused on stimulating e-commerce markets, increasing confidence in online transactions, and protecting customer rights to enhance growth and contribute to the goals of Vision 2030. Entrepreneurs transitioning from traditional commerce to e-commerce are being supported by entities providing a range of services, including empowerment, electronic payment, digital marketing, technical solutions, electronic markets, logistical solutions, and e-store development platforms. The E-Commerce Council, in particular, aims to enhance the reliability of e-commerce, increase its contributions to the national economy, and stimulate e-commerce activities in Saudi Arabia.

E-commerce offers consumers the convenience of shopping anytime, anywhere, saving time and effort. Online shoppers have access to a wide range of goods and services with various options in a transparent and highly competitive environment, which helps to build consumer trust. As e-commerce continues to grow in Saudi Arabia, it is becoming an integral part of the country’s economy and is playing a key role in achieving the goals of Vision 2030. The Ministry of Commerce is committed to supporting the development of the e-commerce sector and ensuring that it remains a thriving and reliable market for businesses and consumers alike.

The growth of e-commerce in Saudi Arabia is evident in the increasing number of commercial records issued for online businesses. Riyadh City leads the way in this regard, with a significant number of e-commerce records being issued in the region.
