Spain’s midfielder #06 Mikel Merino scored a crucial goal in the final minute of extra time to lead Spain to a 2-1 victory over Germany in the Euro 2024 quarter-final match. The game, held at the Stuttgart Arena in Stuttgart, was a highly anticipated clash between two of the most successful nations in Euros history, with both teams vying for a spot in the semi-finals. After a goalless first half, Spain’s Dani Olmo opened the scoring with a well-placed shot in the 51st minute, only for Germany’s Florian Wirtz to equalize in the dying minutes of regular time. However, it was Merino’s header in extra time that ultimately secured Spain’s place in the semi-finals.

The match between Spain and Germany was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating chances and displaying skillful play on the field. Despite Germany’s late equalizer, Spain remained composed and focused, eventually finding the breakthrough they needed to secure the victory. The goal by Merino in the final minute of extra time was met with jubilation from the Spanish players and fans, as they celebrated their team’s progress in the tournament.

Germany, on the other hand, saw their hopes of a fairy-tale Euros victory dashed as they were eliminated by Spain in a dramatic fashion. The loss marked the end of a disappointing tournament for the hosts, who had high expectations coming into the competition. The defeat also marked the end of Toni Kroos’ illustrious career, adding a bittersweet element to Germany’s exit from the tournament.

The match showcased the talent and determination of both teams, with players from Spain and Germany delivering strong performances throughout the game. Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo was particularly influential, scoring a crucial goal and providing an assist for Merino’s winning goal. Germany’s Florian Wirtz also impressed, scoring the equalizer in the final minutes of regular time and causing problems for the Spanish defense.

Overall, the Euro 2024 quarter-final match between Spain and Germany was a thrilling encounter that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Spain’s victory and progression to the semi-finals marked a significant achievement for the team, who now have their sights set on a record-breaking fourth Euros crown. With strong performances from key players like Merino and Olmo, Spain will be hoping to carry their momentum into the next stage of the tournament and continue their pursuit of glory.
