Qatar, known as Asian volleyball heavyweights, are set to compete in the 2024 FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup in China. Their first match will be against Egypt, the top-ranked team in Africa, in the quarter-finals. This tournament also serves as a qualifying event for the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in the following year. The competition kicked off in Linyi, Shandong Province, with China and Belgium securing victories to move on to the semi-finals.

China defeated Mexico 3-0 in the opening day, with outside hitter Zhang Jingyin leading the attack with 19 points. Wang Jingyi also contributed significantly with 13 points, helping China secure a spot in the semi-finals. The key to their victory, according to Jingyin, was their strong focus on defense and teamwork. China aims to secure a place in the Nations League after previous appearances in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022.

In another quarter-final match, Belgium avenged their loss to Croatia in the European Golden League with a dramatic 3-2 victory. Seppe Rotty was instrumental in Belgium’s win, scoring 24 points, with support from Ferre Reggers and Pierre Perrin. The tournament continues today with Ukraine facing off against Chile in the third quarter-final, followed by Qatar taking on Egypt in a highly anticipated match.

If Qatar emerges victorious against Egypt, they will advance to face China in the semi-finals. The tournament will conclude on July 7 with the third-place classification match followed by the title clash. Qatar, under the guidance of coach Camilo Andres Soto, aims to make a strong impression in the Challenger Cup and potentially secure a spot in the prestigious Nations League. Volleyball fans are eagerly anticipating the exciting matches and competitive showdowns in this international tournament.
