The Mleiha Dairy Farm in Sharjah is revolutionizing dairy farming in the UAE with its advanced cooling technology that keeps the cows comfortable and ensures optimal milk production even during the scorching summer temperatures. The farm, which can house up to 2,500 cows, currently has 1,200 cows in four barns, with plans to bring in an additional 1,300 cows in September. The barns are equipped with automatic cooling systems that maintain a moderate temperature of 26°C during the summer. Sensors and fans help to regulate the environment inside the barns, while wind curtains open and close automatically.

Ektifa, formerly known as Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Est., is dedicated to the welfare of the cows and their wellbeing in the summer heat. The farm aims to distribute dairy products by July next year and complete its dairy processing plant by 2025. The organic milk produced at the farm comes from a nucleus herd of 5,000 cows with a pure A2A2 gene pool, ensuring high-quality milk that is free of hormones and antibiotics. The milk is rich in nutrients, easy to digest, and beneficial for human health.

The cows at Mleiha Dairy Farm are fed organic feed sourced from on-site wheat bran and organic hay from the farm’s wheat fields in Maliha. The farm also grows organic fodder on-site to reduce expenses and create a circular economy. The milk produced at the farm contains more than 3.5% fat and 3.5% protein, making it one of the finest types of milk for consumers. It is delivered in its natural form without any interference or reduction in its components, ensuring a high-quality and nutritious product for consumers.

Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the first phase of the farm in April of this year. The farm prioritized getting the cows settled before summer to help them adapt gradually to the UAE environment. The farm aims to increase its dairy production capacity to 75,000 litres of raw milk daily by early 2025, scaling up to 61 million litres annually by 2028. The cows at the farm are cared for in temperature-controlled barns equipped with advanced cooling technology to ensure their comfort and well-being, even during the hottest months.

The dairy products from Mleiha Dairy Farm will reach consumers by July next year, with plans to expand production and distribution in the coming years. The focus on organic farming practices and the purity of the A2A2 gene pool contribute to the high quality and nutritional value of the milk produced at the farm. Consumers can expect a premium product that is not only delicious but also beneficial for their health. The farm’s commitment to sustainability and animal welfare sets it apart as a leader in the dairy industry in the UAE.
