Manah: Oman Across Ages Museum (OAAM) has recently made a significant step by joining the International Council of Museums (ICOM) headquartered in Paris. This membership not only puts the museum on the global stage but also allows it to tap into international expertise. Eng. Al Yaqdhan Abdullah Al Harthi, Director General of OAAM, mentioned that this move will enable the museum’s operators to participate in international meetings, forums, research, and specialized studies within the museum field. Furthermore, this membership will help enhance the efficiency and efforts of the museum’s staff.

The ICOM is a non-governmental organization that focuses on museums, setting professional and ethical standards for museum activities. It also plays a crucial role in making recommendations on issues related to cultural heritage and increasing public cultural awareness. By joining this prestigious organization, OAAM will have access to valuable resources, guidance, and support to further improve its operations and services. This represents a significant milestone for the museum in terms of gaining international recognition and expanding its network within the museum community.

The step taken by OAAM to join the ICOM is not just a symbolic gesture but a practical decision that will have tangible benefits for the museum’s development and growth. By being part of this global network of museums, OAAM will have the opportunity to collaborate with other institutions, share knowledge and best practices, and learn from the experiences of museum professionals around the world. This will undoubtedly help OAAM to enhance its exhibits, programs, and overall visitor experience, ultimately increasing its appeal and relevance in the global museum landscape.

Eng. Al Yaqdhan Abdullah Al Harthi emphasized that joining the ICOM will provide OAAM with a platform to engage in discussions and initiatives that are shaping the future of museums worldwide. This will allow OAAM to stay abreast of current trends, innovations, and challenges facing the museum industry, enabling it to adapt and evolve accordingly. By participating in international events and activities organized by the ICOM, OAAM will have the opportunity to showcase its unique heritage and culture to a global audience, attracting more visitors and fostering greater appreciation for Oman’s rich history.

In addition to benefiting from the expertise and resources of the ICOM, OAAM’s membership will also open up new opportunities for collaboration with museums and cultural institutions from around the world. This will not only enrich OAAM’s programs and exhibitions but also help forge long-lasting partnerships that promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding. By leveraging its membership in the ICOM, OAAM can position itself as a key player in the global museum community, contributing to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage on an international scale.

Overall, the decision of Manah: Oman Across Ages Museum to join the International Council of Museums reflects its commitment to excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in preserving and promoting Oman’s cultural heritage. By becoming a member of this esteemed organization, OAAM is taking a major step towards enhancing its global profile and establishing itself as a leading museum in the region. This strategic move not only benefits the museum itself but also serves to elevate the reputation of Oman as a hub of cultural richness and diversity, attracting more visitors and fostering greater appreciation for its historical and artistic treasures.
