Many Bahraini households rely heavily on full-time housemaids, which can lead to family members becoming overly dependent on domestic help. This reliance on maids can have a negative impact on physical fitness and overall health. In an interview with The Daily Tribune, Moayyed Feroze, Co-founder of The Healthy Conscience, highlighted the importance of incorporating chores into daily routines to promote physical activity and independence, especially among children.

Engaging in daily household chores can help maintain a minimum level of physical activity. Feroze explained that activities such as sweeping, mopping, gardening, and washing dishes involve various muscle groups, promoting physical movement and burning calories. By integrating chores into daily routines, families can prevent health issues associated with a sedentary lifestyle, such as obesity and reduced muscle strength. This also ensures that everyone remains physically active, maintaining a healthy weight and muscle tone.

Feroze emphasized the importance of building healthy habits by incorporating chores into daily routines. Using the technique of habit stacking, which involves linking a new habit to an existing one, can make it easier to incorporate chores into daily life. By assigning chores to children, families can maintain a clean home while teaching responsibility, the importance of contributing to the household, and boosting children’s confidence and self-esteem. Regular participation in household chores also fosters independence and develops essential life skills such as time management and problem-solving.

To encourage children to participate in household chores, Feroze suggested simple chore-like exercises such as Toy Clean-Up, Sweeping or Vacuuming, Gardening, Setting the Table, Laundry Sorting, Wiping Surfaces, Making the Bed, and Carrying Groceries. These age-appropriate chores not only help maintain a clean home but also play a crucial role in children’s personal development. Finding the right balance between the convenience of domestic help and promoting physical activity and independence is essential for the overall well-being of families in Bahrain.

In conclusion, incorporating chores into daily routines can have a positive impact on the physical fitness and overall health of families in Bahrain. By promoting physical activity through household chores and teaching children responsibility and independence, families can maintain a healthy lifestyle. Balancing the convenience of domestic help with the benefits of promoting physical activity and independence is crucial for the well-being of families. With the guidance of experts like Moayyed Feroze, families in Bahrain can develop healthy habits and ensure the overall health and happiness of their household members.
