As England’s national football team prepares to face Slovakia in the Euro 2024 tournament, manager Gareth Southgate is feeling the pressure to deliver results amidst high expectations from fans and critics. Despite being considered pre-tournament favorites, England has failed to live up to the hype with lackluster performances in the group stage. However, with a relatively easier draw compared to other top teams in the competition, the Three Lions have a chance to make a deep run in the tournament.

The attacking quartet of Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Harry Kane, who had impressive seasons at their respective clubs, have struggled to find their rhythm in the national team setup. Southgate is under immense pressure to find the right balance and unlock their potential on the field. With Foden’s return to the squad after attending the birth of his child, Southgate may have to make tough decisions regarding the lineup to address England’s attacking struggles.

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon is one of the players who could be given a chance to shine in the upcoming match. Known for his direct and attacking style of play, Gordon aims to bring a different dimension to the team and provide the much-needed spark in the attack. Young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is also expected to play a significant role after impressing in his previous appearance, while the clamor for Chelsea’s Cole Palmer to be unleashed grows louder.

Despite facing criticism for his team selection and tactics, Southgate remains confident in his approach as he navigates England through the challenges of a major tournament. The manager’s experience and resilience in handling pressure situations have been evident in the past, as seen in England’s journey to the final of the last Euros. However, memories of the shocking defeat to Iceland in Euro 2016 serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of underestimating opponents in knockout games.

As England faces Slovakia in the knockout stage of Euro 2024, the team must rise to the occasion and show their true potential on the field. The pressure is on Southgate and his players to deliver results and silence their critics by putting on a strong performance in Gelsenkirchen. With talented individuals in the squad and a favorable draw in the tournament, England has a golden opportunity to make a statement and progress towards their ultimate goal of reaching the final in Berlin on July 14.
