Trade between India and Bahrain has reached a total of $706.68 million from January to April this year, with India exporting $352.11 million worth of goods to Bahrain and importing $354.57 million. Rice imports from India to Bahrain have seen a significant increase, reaching $68 million in 2023 compared to $51 million in 2022. The main commodities imported by Bahrain from India include semi-milled or fully milled rice, gold jewellery, smartphones, private cars, and beef.

Semi-milled or fully milled rice from India accounted for 83% of the top 10 commodities imported by Bahrain, valued at $67.68 million for 67,000 tonnes. Gold jewellery constituted 11% of Bahrain’s imports from India, amounting to $26.07 million for 157 kilograms. Smartphones and private cars were also significant imports, with smartphones making up 8% of imports at $26.85 million for 97,000 devices, and 2,000 private cars in the 1001-1500cc category valued at $23 million.

On the other hand, Bahrain’s principal exports to India included bars and other forms of iron or non-alloy steel, worth $15 million for 6.8 million kilograms, and 22 million kilograms of refined sugar crystals valued at $16 million. India is one of Bahrain’s top 10 trading partners, with trade between the two countries showing steady growth over the past five years. Despite a decline in 2019 and 2020, trade saw a resurgence in 2021, reaching $1.40 billion in 2022.

India’s exports to Bahrain have increased from $768 million to $904 million over the past five years, while Bahrain’s exports to India have grown from $314 million to $500 million. This has positioned India as Bahrain’s 6th largest import partner and 9th largest export partner. With trade relations between the two countries on the rise, both India and Bahrain are hopeful for further growth and strengthened bilateral ties in the future.

In conclusion, the trade between India and Bahrain has shown significant growth, with imports and exports between the two nations reaching $706.68 million for the first quarter of 2023. India’s exports to Bahrain include rice, gold jewellery, smartphones, private cars, and beef, while Bahrain’s exports to India consist of iron or non-alloy steel and refined sugar crystals. With India ranking among Bahrain’s top trading partners, both countries are working towards fostering stronger economic relations and boosting trade in the years to come.
